PR Specialist
Our PR team sits at the heart of everything we do — shaping how the world sees us, protecting our reputation, and amplifying the stories that matter.
Company Overview
TableCheck is Japan’s leading restaurant management and reservation technology platform, used by over 95% of luxury and Michelin-starred restaurants nationwide.
Founded in 2012, the company has grown into a sophisticated SaaS and data-driven platform serving both B2B and B2C users. Headquartered in Tokyo and operating in nine countries (including Japan, Singapore, China, Thailand, Hong Kong, and UAE), TableCheck enables restaurants to manage reservations, optimize table turnover, and analyze diner preferences — all in a single interface.
Dining Connected
TableCheck’s vision is to create a world in which restaurants are where people around the globe gather, celebrate, and savour food and life together. The company’s mission is to create a world of extraordinary dining experiences.
About the Role
Our PR team sits at the heart of everything we do — shaping how the world sees us, protecting our reputation, and amplifying the stories that matter. With no retained PR agency at present, you will work directly with the PR Manager to cover the full spectrum of communications across B2B, B2C, corporate, and crisis disciplines, while also supporting internal communications in close partnership with HR.
This is a high-ownership, high-impact role for a practitioner who is energised by building programs from the ground up, comfortable navigating ambiguity, and ready to grow with a company that moves quickly and thinks boldly.
Key Responsibilities
・Draft, edit, and localise press releases, media pitches, Q&As, holding statements, and executive messaging across B2B, B2C, corporate, and crisis contexts
・Proactively pitch stories to trade, industry, technology, lifestyle, F&B, and hospitality media; build and maintain a robust, up-to-date media list
・Develop and nurture relationships with journalists, editors, bloggers, KOLs, and influencers (in the Japanese market for the time being)
・Support crisis communications planning and response, including drafting holding statements and coordinating rapid-response workflows
・Collaborate with HR to develop internal communications materials — announcements, newsletters, town hall decks — that reinforce company culture
・Track media coverage, compile reports, and translate insights into actionable recommendations for the PR Manager
・Liaise with external PR agencies when agency support is onboarded, ensuring briefings are sharp and outputs are on-brand
・Manage multiple projects simultaneously, keeping stakeholders informed and deadlines met with minimal supervision
Requirements (Must-Have)
・Minimum five years of PR & communications experience, ideally within a start-up, scale-up, SaaS or technology company
・Demonstrable track record of earned media results across multiple communications disciplines
・Established media relationships spanning trade, industry, technology, lifestyle, F&B, and/or hospitality sectors
・Familiarity with PR measurement tools and media monitoring platforms
・Japanese (fluent or native) and English (business proficiency) — written and spoken
・Strong project management skills; able to plan, prioritise, and deliver in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift constantly
・Comfortable operating with ambiguity and making sound, independent judgements without waiting to be directed
・A proactive self-starter with an internal locus of control — you own your outcomes and course-correct without being prompted
・Open to receiving and giving constructive feedback as part of a healthy, high-performance team culture
・Able to engage in healthy debate and constructive conflict, bringing a solution-oriented mindset focused on achieving PR objectives and marketing goals
・Meticulous attention to detail with a commitment to consistency and coherence across all messages, narratives, and brand identity — strives for excellence in every output
・Outcome- and results-oriented — measures success by impact and value created, not volume of work produced
Who Thrives Here
We work in an environment where decisions are made quickly, plans evolve, and no two weeks look the same. The people who do best on this team are collaborative team players who bring energy and generosity to shared goals — without needing the spotlight. They are accountable: when something goes sideways, they reflect, adapt, and move forward. They communicate directly, welcome honest feedback, and extend the same candour to their colleagues.
If you have a can-do attitude, a genuine curiosity about communications craft, and the resilience to stay focused when things get busy — this is the team for you.
Ideal Candidate Profile
・Understands media and can craft stories that resonate with consumers
・Has a passion for sharing the possibilities of the “Food × Technology” space
・Thrives in a fast-paced startup environment and proactively creates new opportunities
Our Commitment
We are committed to building a team that reflects the diversity of the world we communicate to. We welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds, and we make our hiring decisions based on skills, potential, culture contribution, and alignment with our values.
